MOVIE FANS!! It’s early April… and that means it’s SUMMER MOVIE POOL TIME! The site has been scrubbed clean of 2024 content (check the Archive for that wonderful data) and is now fresh and ready for everyone to jump in and make their selections. SMP XXVI is on!
2024 RECAP
Just when everyone was saying that theaters are dead… the #1 (Inside Out 2) and #2 (Deadpool & Wolverine) movies of the summer combined for a record-breaking $1.2B. Ok sure, the collective box office of $3.46B was the lowest non-Covid year since 2006, but the total gross of the Top 10 ($2.6B) was still the third-highest ever. So there.
6 of us finished tied atop the scoreboard with 9 correct picks… but there could be only one winner. Yours truly managed to hold off the close competition with the best Deviation Score to take my first SMP Title since 2019. Joy!

2025 RULES
The rules are the same as always, and are posted on the Pool Rules page of the site. A quick summary:
- The pool officially runs from May 1 to Aug 31.
- The entry deadline is Wednesday 4/30 at 11:59pm PT.
- Entry Fee = $10.00 due by Saturday May 3.
- To play you must have a User account on the website as created by the Pool Administrators.
- Prior year players already have User accounts on the site and can reset their own passwords, if needed.
- New players are to email the Pool Administrators at summermoviepool@gmail.com to request a User account.
- Entries will be submitted via the website under Account – Pick Movies.
- The only eligible movies are those that are released domestically within the listed date range.
- Submit your Top 10 list of movies in the order that you believe they will finish.
- At the deadline for pool entry the site will lock down so that the Picks can be revealed in time for the first opening weekend.
- The final box office earnings will be tallied on Sept 1, which is when the SMP winner will be determined.
- The player with the highest # of correct Top 10 picks wins.
- In the event of a tie the Deviation Score will be calculated among all contenders’ picks.
- There will always be a 1st Place + 2nd Place + Bonehead Award prize. A 3rd Place prize will be subject to the total # of entries.
Entry payment instructions were provided in the email invite, and will be provided directly to players as needed.
