Right. Down. To. The. Wire. We have Box Office Mojo’s Actuals through Tuesday 8/30, and are just waiting for the 8/31 numbers to come in before we can declare our winner. This is amazing as in our prior 22 years we’ve never had a race go down to the very last day of the summer.
Knowing that Lightyear is running on fumes we identified that Nope simply needed ~$684K in 3 weekdays to surpass it. And then the total for Monday 8/29 was released. $227K. Uh oh… the math won’t cut it. Not when you figure that Mondays are expected to outperform Tuesdays. Well guess what? Tuesday 8/30 pulled in $281K. Hello!
So as of now with only Wednesday 8/31 remaining our BOM Daily Tracker shows:
Lightyear = $118,293,317
Nope = $118,126,795
Just $167K more and we have a tie for First Place. Anything short and John B. wins it all. We’ll keep an eye on Box Office Mojo updates throughout the evening to see when 8/31 finally posts. Stay tuned!
