It sure feels kind of weird not kicking off the summer with a Marvel flick. Nope, we’ll have to wait until late-July for that. Instead, we get the (not-so-accurate) movie version of the classic 80’s action TV show, The Fall Guy. Ok sure, the character name in the movie is the same… and he’s a stuntman… but as I understand that’s about it. Certainly not the moonlighting bounty hunter as portrayed by Lee Majors in the TV series. No lie, this still looks fun based on the barrage of trailers. And the critics have been very kind (Rotten Tomatoes 84% positive) despite the soft box office projections. 33 players are counting on it to hit or it’s going to be a very long summer for the majority of us.

Here’s hoping we get that theme song as sung by Lee Majors. This clip is for the Millenials that need to be learned good.

The other Wide releases this weekend are the 25th Anniversary of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, and the first of many horror flicks to come, Tarot. We already know that Phantom Menace wasn’t warmly received by either the critics or the audience when it was originally released in 1999 (our 2nd year of the SMP!), but Tarot with a RT score of just 5% looks DOA.

And while I know for a fact that the animated Dragonkeeper (picked by 1 player) is playing at my local AMC this weekend, I’m seeing no box office projections or RT score. Uh ohhh, Tina better hope it does report $$$ to at least qualify for the Bonehead Award. Just remember last year when 1 player picked Rally Road Racers which finally reported after a couple stressful weekends. Stressful for him, not us, as we all simply laughed at his misfortune 🙂

Lastly, it should be noted that Box Office Pro is really slipping and apparently no longer putting out legit dollar predictions or even a table of the full weekend’s forecast. So we are pivoting to The Numbers to bring you the goodness.
