Weekend #2 brings the fourth movie in the updated Apes franchise: Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, taking us several generations into the future. Selected by 40 players, Kingdom pulled in $6.6M in Thursday previews to get a jump on what is expected to be a $49M weekend. Despite decent RT scores by both critics and audiences that mirror the 2011 origin film, it doesn’t appear that its box office will be similar based on the weekend’s projections. The numbers below indicate a bit of Apes fatigue in 2017, so expecting something greater seven years later might be unrealistic.

The other Wide release is Not Another Church Movie (picked by 1 player). Critic reviews, as expected, are terrible and it’s showing in only 1,100 theaters. Whoops.

We also have a limited release in The Last Stop in Yuma County (selected by 1 player), however this one is VERY well received with a 98% RT score among 48 reviews. But I just can’t see where it is playing this weekend, as it’s not listed on Fandango. Hope it makes some $$$ to qualify and doesn’t go straight to streaming.
